How an Auger Attachment Can Speed Up Your Workflow

While we sell hundreds of attachments here at Rhinoceros Diggers, our auger attachment is consistently one of our top 5 best-selling attachments. They are popular for a reason – augers can significantly speed up your workflow depending on the requirements of your project.

What Is an Auger Attachment?

An auger is a hydraulic-powered attachment that works with mini excavators and skid steers. It uses a rotating helical drill bit to bore holes into the ground with speed and precision.

These tools come in various diameter sizes and are designed to handle different soil conditions, from loose sand to stiff clay and even rock.

When can they help?

They are especially great when you need numerous holes and/or you want the holes to have consistent sizes and depths. They also help to create much smaller holes than you otherwise could with a bucket. These uses include:

  • Agriculture: Planting crops, such as tree planting pits or irrigation holes
  • Construction: Holes for fences, foundation footings, posts and more
  • Utilities: Bore holes for signage, utility poles, and more

Which type should you get?

  • Size: It is important to measure the diameter of the holes you plan to dig before purchasing and choose an appropriate drill bit attachment size to match, or get multiple sizes if needed.
  • Hand-held vs Attachment: If you are looking to do smaller gardening projects, then a hand-held electric auger will be less cumbersome and easier to use. If you need to break through tougher ground or make a higher number of holes, we recommend a hydraulic-powered mini-excavator auger attachment.
